Instruct the host to call on the fathers of the bride and the groom. Let the father of the bride slice a cake for the groom. Let the father of the groom slice a cake for the bride. After these, let them give out each of these slices of cake to the bride and the groom. The groom will then have a bite to the cake being held by the bride and vice versa. The host will explain to the guests what have happened: "The joining of the father of the bride in the cake slicing ceremony symbolizes a warm welcome to the groom as a new member of their family. Likewise, the presence of the father of the groom symbolizes a warm welcome to the bride as a new member of their family."

After the traditional cake slicing ceremony, the bride and the groom will prepare a slice of cake for each of their principal sponsors and distribute them. As they are doing this, the host will say: "This act symbolizes that you are now all considered second parents of the bride and the groom (referring to the principal sponsors); may you all provide guidance to the newlyweds.
